The guys are getting their own show.
The first-ever New York Fashion Week: Men’s is set to take place in July 2015 in the 70,000-square foot Skylight Clarkson Sq in West Soho, Manhattan. The event, which is hosted by the CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America), serves to be a “a standalone showcase for American men’s fashion,” according to the organization’s website. A multitude of brands and designers will be participating, including Polo Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein, John Varvatos, and Coach.
And while the popular NYFW shows we ever hear about are sponsored by Mercedes-Benz, the New York Fashion Week: Men’s is backed by another car company: Cadillac. The brand is reportedly making the move to bolster its image as a lifestyle brand, and to hopefully appeal to the thirty to forty-year-olds who are the crème de la crème of consumers when it comes to luxury.
Can you attend?
I was getting unclear information online on who can attend this epic fashion event, so I decided to reach out to one of my most favorite people in the world (because he’s awesome and I look up to him a lot #goals), Mr. Peter Arnold, who was the president of the CFDA for four years.
Sad to say, he had some bad news for plebeians like you and me who want to witness some fresh men’s fashion in the flesh.
“Unfortunately, if you aren’t press, or a retailer, it isn’t possible to register for NYFW Men’s,” he says.
Not all hope is lost, however.
“Of course, if you are connected to a designer in some other way, I’m sure you can get an invitation.”
So, ladies and gents in their early 20s who frequent my site, you still have a chance if, perhaps, any of you interned at one of these fashion houses and made some good connections. You may be stuffed in the back somewhere behind the hoard of photographers and journalists, but hey, getting a glimpse of it in person is better than not seeing it at all!
